Since 1996, when the first online casino opened, games have kept getting better, just like those in LuckyCola. But before we can look back at where online Slots came from, we need to take a look at where the simple slot machine came from.

Poker machine
The first slot machines appeared around 1891. This game was made by Sittman and Pitt. It had five drums and 50 playing cards. To play, you had to put a nickel in and pull a lever, which stretched the springs inside and made the drums spin when the lever was let go.
Instead of getting credits or money like we do now, people who won would get free drinks and cigars at the bar where the machine was located. All they had to do was line up Poker hands on the reels. To make the house edge bigger, the ten of spades and the jack of hearts were taken out of the normal deck.
The first one-armed bandit
Charles Augustus Fey made what is thought to be the first slot machine between 1887 and 1895. Fey changed the five drums to three reels and the playing cards to just five symbols: hearts, diamonds, spades, horseshoes, and a liberty bell. This made it possible for the payment to be made automatically.
Because Fey didn’t try to get a patent for his idea, other companies were able to copy it.
When slot machines were outlawed in 1902, the Liberty Bell was the only one that kept being made. This led to the “Fruit Machine” era, when most machines paid out wins in the form of candies that tasted like the fruit on the reels.
Slots go electric.
In 1964, the first slot machine with all-electric parts went on stage. It was made by a company called Bally and was called Money Honey. The reels were no longer turned by a spring, but the handle stayed so that players would still feel comfortable.
This was also the first slot machine with an endless hopper, meaning that it could make an automatic payout of up to 500 coins.
As the game got more famous, the lever was taken away and a button put in its place.
Video Slots
Between 1976 and 1978, a Las Vegas company called Fortune Coin made the first video slot.
The game was made with a 19-inch Sony TV that had been changed, and it was first shown at the Las Vegas Hilton Hotel.
The Nevada State Gaming Commission approved the machine soon after it had been changed to make it harder to cheat. This made it very famous on the Las Vegas Strip.
Online Slots
Before 1996, not much changed, except maybe the themes and variations of land-based slot machines. When the first online casino opened in the mid-1990s, slot games were one of the first things that could be played there.
Over time, different features, symbols, bonuses, and rules have taken slot games to a whole new level. This is because the size of the possible payouts has grown. Now, you can play games that look like the old Fruit Machines along with a lot of other games. So, where do you want to go next?
